A WONDERFULLY WOOLLY YEAR

I've been quiet on my blog, but busy in my work so I thought it was time for an update.

2018 was a fun year for me. You see about 8 years ago I wound down my costume work. After over 10 years working in costume I took a break to have children. I just wasn't sure if there was a place for me in this industry that didn't include travel, long hours and bucket loads of stress. So I took up knitting.

But I missed the costume work; the excitment, the creativity, the research and the outside-the-box thinking. So last year I thought I would see if I could have a sustainable business where my love for knitting could sit happily with my love for costume. Turns out I could.

Early last year I worked on an Australian TV series called Lambs of God. The TV series is based on a book by Marele Day. It includes nuns, knitting and a fair bit of madness. So needless to say I jumped at the chance of being Knit Design Consultant on this. My job was to assist the costume designer Xanthe Heubel design the knitted costumes and then translate them into patterns that Australian based knitters could use. Not long after this job I got a second role where I worked on an LA based film designing late 1800 knits for the film's lead characters. For this production I mostly used my trusty knitting machine and got my knitting needles out where possible to make them look like hand knits.

I'm delighted to be back working in costume. I am currently working in the 1920s for another job and couldn't be happier.

But while all this was going on I was also busy on the hand knitting front. Firstly Greenwich shawl was published in July's Twist Collective Publication. Sadly Twist Collective is no longer trading, so if you are interested in me publishing this pattern let me know, also tell me what 4 ply yarns you would like to see it made in.

Later in the year I designed Tanzanite cowl for Making Stories' Jewels book.
